As a global market leader in potato starch, Royal Avebe is taking the sustainable way forward. In recent years the company has become a key player in the fast-growing market of meat substitutes, producing vegetable protein extracted from potato juice (formerly a waste product). Here, the leading principle is to seek an optimal balance between the three Ps: people, planet and profit. To maintain its leading role in this dynamic market, Avebe critically depends on speed and efficiency in its projects. To make this work, P2 is helping Avebe in various ways to adopt and embed project-based working within the organisation.
An important key to Avebe’s success is their ‘just do it’ attitude: roll up your sleeves, get down to work, and learn and solve any problems along the way. However, this strength is also Avebe’s challenge: how does the ‘get right down to work’ approach fit in with the principles of project-based working, where the starting point is to reflect and plan first? How to deliver projects in the shortest time possible and ensure that the results are ‘first time right’? This is where Avebe and P2 have found each other: in hands-on teamwork to deliver successful projects, while at the same time building a solid foundation for successful project management across the organisation.
P2 has been Avebe’s partner for quite some time now, helping with interim management of strategic projects and improving project management skills. As project leaders, we helped Avebe save water in its factories, make the production of protein from potato juice more sustainable, and move to a more sustainable building. We also helped Avebe to train their own staff in project management and to develop a cross-discipline project approach.
Avebe will now put this new approach into practice. As a ‘partner in projects’ we will stay involved and contribute ideas when needed. Through building a stronger company, P2 helps Avebe to accelerate the protein transition, enable a sustainable future for their farmers, and contribute to a more sustainable food chain. Because that’s what this is all about.
